• China, Russia, Britain, France and the US have agreed that a nuclear war should be avoided, and a spread of nuclear arms halted, according to a joint statement by the five official nuclear powers published by the Kremlin. Takeaways: the English-language version of the statement said that the five countries — which are the permanent members of the UN Security Council — “affirm that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.”
